Muscle Shoals

Muscle Shoals

We liked this piece because it too created this idea of the documentary being old fashioned and antique; we detected this through the use of colours (orange, brown and black. Furthermore the use of collage worked as the repetition of squares, however in different sizes, put a new dynamic on the overall piece making it more interesting to look at. The title 'Muscles Shoals' written in white works well because it stands out the most; my eyes are instantly drawn to that as it clean and crisp.

20 Feet From Stardom

20 Feet From Stardom

This piece has the model placed on the left hand side of the advert nevertheless it still works just as effectively. We liked the use of effects behind the model as the circular shapes almost seem to dissolve in the territory of where the text has been placed making the overall piece smooth and fluent. The use of bold colours works well for this piece as it targets the target audience of the film which is stereotypical girls.

20 Feet From Stardom

20 Feet From Stardom

This one was quite unusual which is why we drew our attention to it; this piece consists of a line drawing of one of the main characters in the documentary however the drawing is filled up with titles of songs that the characters in the documentary have sung and have been famous for in the past. The colours used makes the piece look old fashioned and antique which reflects a theme in the documentary as the speakers are music legends.

AMY

AMY

We really liked this because she is portrayed as the most important part of the whole piece. Her face, her eyes looking at the camera, and arm are the only parts of the piece that are the lightest; the rest is quite dark which creates this mysterious atmosphere. Furthermore we liked how 'AMY' is the biggest and boldest piece of text which really makes draw you're attention to her, which works successfully. We liked the use of a dark background as it creates this contrast of light and dark.

The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone

The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone

We liked the use of quotes at the top as persuades potential viewers to invest in the film. The use of colours worked effectively- using red, yellow, peach, blue, black and white- as it created this pattern and make the overall product more eye-catching. Again this piece has a black background, with the singer Ian Brown and the crowd further down at the bottom. Where the picture is placed is effective as it immediately tells the audience that this is a very popular band so it creates a buzz.

Cobain: Montage Of Heck

Cobain: Montage Of Heck

Again this piece places the main character on the right hand side which I think works effectively because it makes the piece look organised and structured. Also we liked the use of yellow, white and black as the colour texts as it makes the pieces of writing more interesting to read as well as matching the colour scheme of the band he was famous for being in- Nirvana- which works as a nice touch. We liked the use of the monochrome effect as it highlights subtly the fact he's passed away.

A Very British Storm Junkie

A Very British Storm Junkie

We really liked this one because the leading lines of the road draw the readers attention, it brings the eye to the centre of the advert. This made us notice the severe weather and the atmosphere that portrayed which was quite overpowering and dramatic. We liked how the road was unused which created this sense of isolation; we will take this idea into consideration when photographing The Commoners.
