The Commoners: The Journey Of Music
In this video, Georgia is interviewing Charlotte. She pitches the idea to her and recieves suggestions of what to include in the documentary. Charlotte is too part of their target audience, she is very much into music and fashion; she attends gigs quite regularly and her favourite bands are Walk the Moon, Mumford and Sons, The Kooks etc.
Reflecting upon this we believed that the delivery of our product was unclear and that was possibly because at that time we were planning on changing our idea slightly. This stimulated us to organise to do another focus group and make the delivery of our pitch clearer and concise.
This is Beth, she is 18 years old. She loves music and being creative. She enjoys going to festivals, she has been to Leeds, V fest and T in the park. She is interested in variety of different styles of music. Her favourite bands are The courtneers and The Kooks. She also enjoys listening to Sam Smith, George Ezra and Ed Sheeran.

This is a preview of our survey, we wanted to find out what kind of target audience we would be aiming at; we asked questions based on fashion and music.


In this question we found out that the majority of our target audience will be ranging from 17-18 which means that they will be young adults. There are stereotypes associated with this group which we have researched into.

We found out through asking this question that over 60% of our responses were female therefore our target audience could possibly more female.

Over 40% of our respondents said that they were very into fashion. Therefore we had to incorporate this not only into our music documentary but the double page spread as i think that it would be something that would interest our potential readers.

Focus Group


This is Danny. He is 18 years old and lives in Manchester; he loves music and having a good time with his friends by regularly going to gigs in Manchester. He is into rock, indie rock and occassionally rap. He is regularly up to date with trends nevertheless he isnt just a follower he likes wearing stuff that is individual and different. His favourite bands are The Wombats, The Courteeners and Kanye West and he loves going on the internet and listening to music hourly. He occassionally watches documentaries however they have to be based around music; he likes them becuase they include special performances and exclusive interviews.

We found that overall our targeted audience did not mind whether the artist we chose was British or not. However we did find through this graph that a large percentage found it important for the artist to be British. This is something we are going to take into consideration.

The most popular channel which our targeted audience watched was MTV. Therefore we think that MTV would be the best channel to present our documentary, as it is regularly watched by our targeted audience.

We found that a large percentage of our targeted audience like music documentaries. This therefore showed us that our music documentary would be something that our audience would want to watch.

This survey was sent out to a group of people to discover what type of music peomore interested today. It was a way to decide who are targeted audience is and what we would need to include in order for our documentary to be popular.
This is Zha, she is 18 years old and lives in Manchester. Not only is Zha a huge fan of music she is also a musician herself. Due to this she knows what she likes and what she doesnt like. She is someone who regularly goes to gigs. She likes all genres of music however particularly likes Folk/Alternative. Her favourite artists are Rae Morris, Lucy Rose, JP cooper and the 1975. Her preffered style of music suggests what type of music she makes.
What did we find from our survey?
Our survey allowe dus to see that many of our targeted audience watched and enjoyed music documentaries.It aloso showed us that the time which we should present our documentary was at night and the preffered time was around 9 at night. Having a voice over inthe documentary was not essential to our audience, however having an artist who wasn't British was a slight issue to some of our audience, even though a large percentage argued they weren't bothered. Finally it showed us that our documentary should focus on a band rather than a solo artist.
