The Commoners: The Journey Of Music
Why we're not doing Radio Trailers.
This 30 second trailer advertises the ride "Saw" at the theme park Thorpe Park. The use of the sound effects in this short advertisement is essential, as it makes it more interesting and enjoyable to listen to. It also gives the audience an insight to what they can expect from the ride. For example, the use of the sound of people 'screaming' suggests how extreme 'Saw alive' is and will catch the audiences attention, especially to those who enjoy visitng theme parks. Within the advertisment they also say "from the twisted minds that brought you Saw the ride". This is persuasive as they use one of the parks popular rides in order to promote a new one. The voice over in this advertisement has also been chosen carefully, and the tone he speaks in also fits the theme of "terror".
What is expected from a Radio Trailer?
Its important that the narrator talks in an exaggerated way in order for it to become persuasive and for the thing to be promoted in a positive way. Also radio trailers usually only last up to 30 seconds and therefore it is essential that they get straight to the point. The use of sound effects are also effective when it comes to radio trailers as it helps keep the audiences attention.
This is an advertisement which was aired on the radio in 1980 to promote the Star Wars film 'The empire strikes back'. The trailer lasts up to 44 seconds. Throughout the trailer the voice over is telling a story to the audience. For example he says "In a galaxy far far away" This gives the audience an insight into the film without giving the whole storyline out. This is a persuasive technique, as it draws the audience in and encourages them to go and watch the film. The trailer also includes a well known piece of music in the background which continues to build throughout the advertisement.
Jaws 2 was also advertised on the radio. Throughout the radio trailer the line "The legend coninues". This will immediately capture the attnetion of the audience. This film trailer also includes sound effect. However the sound effects which are used are essential to this trailer as it suggests what type of film it is. Also the build up of music at the end of the trailer brings tension. The voice over in the trailer sounds as if he is directing the audience and talking to them.
As a group we have decided not to do a Radio Trailer as throughout our research we found it difficult to find Radio trailers which advertise upcoming documentaries. It is also hard to find radio trailers which advertise upcoming films, as the only radio advertisements which are advertising films are from the 1970's/1980's. This suggests that because new methods of advertisements have come around, for example newspaper article and film trailers or documentaries trailers being shown on the TV, the radio is no longer used as the main method to advertise these things.

Tesco radio trailer
This short radio trailer advertises price changes taking place at Tesco. Due to it being advertised on the radio it is essential that the voice over is understood clearly. Also due to the short amount of time that the radio trailer covers it is important for the advert to get straight to the point. This advertisement incudes a voice over who is enthusiastic, this is important as it keeps the attention of the audience. Also humour is used through the speed in which the voice talks in. They also use the Tesco slogan, in order for the audience to recognise which company the advertisement is on. For instance when the audience here "every little helps" they will be able to link it with the shop Tesco.
